Sandy Chavez
Sylvia Sandra “Sandy” Chavez has been a resident of Tehachapi for over 30 years. She has served the members of this community in different capacities of public service with a heart of compassion and concern.
Sandy fulfilled the duties and responsibilities as the Family Liaison for the Tehachapi Community Resource Center from November 2000 until February 2004. During this period of time, she was able to assist in annual Back to School clothing drive, obtaining donations from multiple corporate, public and non-profit agencies. She developed “Capable Young People Parenting Class”, leading discussion group each week. She worked in conjunction with the Haven Counseling of Bakersfield to establish “Child Neglect Prevention” classes in Tehachapi.
In June 2004, she became the Program Coordinator for the Tehachapi Valley Recreation & Park District. Her responsibilities included coordinating the athletic programs for youth and adults and organizing community activities.
In August 2016, she was appointed Field Representative for the Salvation Army and now is currently the Center Coordinator for the Salvation Army. Currently her responsibilities include overseeing daily food distribution, coordinating with the local Walmart, Albertson, Save Mart for food donations. She also directs a biweekly Senior Sack food distribution and monthly commodity in conjunction with state programs. She organizes clothing and coat drives and has established an after-school program for children. She has made herself available to serve this community with a tangible and substantial way.
Sandy is an active member of Vineyard church. She is married and has three amazing daughters, and four grandchildren.
